Sumner's Parker commits to the Nebraska Cornhuskers

Sumner Academy Sabres sensation Benny Parker will be a Nebraska Cornhusker.

Parker announced his college choice this week, deciding on the Big 10 university.

Last year, Parker averaged about 20 points and 7 assists a game. Parker has been instrumental in Sumner's back-to-back 4A titles in 2010 and 2011.

"Coach Sadler has been telling me that he's trying to change the speed of the game. I'm pretty quick and athletic, and I like to play pressure defense on guards," Parker told HuskerExtra.com. "I'm a guard who likes to get it and go and push the tempo of the game, and he said that's what he liked about me."

Individual awards have piled up in Parker's trophy case.

Parker was awarded The Kansas City Kansan's Freshman of the Year during his freshman season; has been named twice to The Kansas City Kansan's first all-league team; was named The Kansas City Kansan's Defensive Player of the Year in 2010 and was named to The Kansas City Star's all-metro first team in 2011.

Parker was a star on the Kansas City 76ers AAU team this summer.

He will be the leader again as Sumner Academy attempts to three-peat.
