LSU clearly has seperated themselves from the rest of the college football teams. Their defense is amazing to say the least. A valid argument can also be made for Alabama still being the second best team in the country. I won't disagree with either statement. I have a fundamental problem however with a team that is not even going to win their conference division still having the ability to play for the national title.
The BCS which we will refer to BS the remainder of this post indicates that the beauty of their system is that every week matters. The regular season is like a 13 to 14 week playoff. Well Alabama lost its playoff game against LSU because it could not make a 40+ yard field goal. To turn around and give Alabama a mulligan in the BS championship game now is a bit absurd to me. If they win we are supposed to forget that they lost to LSU earlier in the season?
I am a big proponent of the playoff system. I think college basketball's march madness is far and away the standard for college athletics to determine a winner. I don't have a perfect solution for college football but I can say being your conferences best team has to be a requirement.
This will not be unprecedented. In the 2001-2002 season the Nebraska Cornhuskers failed to win the Big 12 but went on to play for the title. Of course they lost to Miami that year.
What about LSU? They are almost being penalized by having to play an additional game while Alabama sits in the clubhouse watching at home. Is it out of the question that if LSU losses next week that they are then eliminated from the title game? Would Alabama seriously be idle and be considered number 1?
The other argument is who on earth deserves to take Alabama's place? If OSU crushes OU next week does that mean anything at all?
If you count the number of "?" in this post should tell you just how confusing and silly this whole process has become.
