Kaw Valley League power rankings, September 29

By NICK SLOAN, NJSloan212@gmail.com

Following the last high school football day in September, it's time to rank the Kaw Valley League teams again.

Here's my rankings following this week.

1. Mill Valley Jaguars (4-1): Mill Valley is making a mockery out of the league in 2012, outscoring KVL opponents 211-25 so far.

2. Piper Pirates (4-1): Piper is the only team left in Mill Valley's path to a league championship. Piper earned a gritty road win against Lansing this week.

3. Turner Golden Bears (3-2): I'm going to throw a curveball here and put Turner in the top three. They've won three games in a row and if Paul Berry would have finished the game against Bonner Springs, I think they're 4-1 right now. Turner was up in the game when he was injured and Bonner Springs only won by five points in Berry's absence. I think Turner wins that game if he's healthy.

4. Bonner Springs Braves (3-2): Still a lot to like with this team, though Mill Valley served up a beating for the Braves Friday night.

5. Basehor-Linwood Bobcats (2-3): After going three years without losing a KVL game, the Bobcats have lost three out of their last four league games - two of which coming at home.

6. Tonganoxie Chieftains (2-3): Tonganoxie won one game last year - meaning they've already topped its total.

7. Lansing Lions (0-5): Lansing demonstrated some pride Friday night against Piper. Still, since they lost, I'll stick them behind Tonganoxie.

8. Bishop Ward (0-5): It's 23 straight losses for Ward as they dropped a game to Tonganoxie by two touchdowns.
