KCK Preps Horror Highlights - Washington

by David Brox, davidbrox@shukc.com

There were two plays that went against Washington on Friday night that I asked Coach Salsgiver for a second look.  I definitely appreciate him sharing.

Either of these plays you can easily say cost Washington the game.

The first situation is incredibly important as there are 15 second remaining in the half.  Washington is at Wyandotte's 5 yard line with no timeouts remaining.  Javeon Williams takes the ball into the end zone but there is a flag for spearing on Williams with 10 seconds remaining.

I am honestly torn on the actual call.  I did some reading and while it is an incredibly rare call it does appear to be the correct call by the definition.  My research did find that this is supposed to be called on offensive and defensive players.  If you are a nerd like me you can read one study here.  This one was actually a better read.

Definition: Hitting another player with the crown of the helmet.

My issue however is the situation the player is in.  He is obviously running with 2 hands on the ball around the goal line.  We can clearly see Abernathy (#80) squeezing in to wrap up.  Williams only instinct is to lower his head to get into the end zone.  I am at a lose at what the young man should have done especially as you are being wrapped up.

The second question I have is the result of the play was a TD.  Yet when they moved the ball back to the 20 they wound the clock.  Is this correct?

This no doubt should generate some chatter and I would love to collect some thoughts from our readers.  If I get enough responses I will post them later in the week.

Play 2 is the onside kick.  This could be as bad as the Bonner fumble call.  I will let the video speak for itself.  Enjoy and I look forward to hearing from you with your opinions on the plays.

Remember before watching.  This is a KCK PREPS HORROR HIGHLIGHT!!!
