KCK Preps Award Ceremony Update

by David Brox, davidbrox@shukc.com

The debate is over and all award winners are now etched in KCK Preps history.  The second annual KCK Preps Award Ceremony will be held December 15h, 10:00 AM at the Legends Phoenix Theater.

I want to first thank the first few sponsors for the event.

The Black Police Officer Association has stepped up their donation and I am very thankful to Emmett Lockridge for helping facilitate this connection with KCK Preps.  It is important that everyone awarded on the 15th has the backing and support as well from this organization.

Nick Verbenec Photography has also been very generous in supporting our events.  We see his work each week and it is impressive.  He is not just limited to sports as he does a lot of personal shoots for seniors.  Check him out at www.nickverbenecphotography.com.

A donation will also be made on behalf of Sport Highlights Unlimited and Serenity Counseling and Wellness Center.  Yes, both of these businesses are tied to me and my family but are apart of a decision my wife and I have made to stay at home in KCK.  It is incredibly important to me personally to see KCK athletes thrive.

If you would be interested in making a donation it is certainly appreciated.  We have raised the game up a bit this year and that obviously comes at a cost.  My goal is to have our POY trophies be coveted by anyone participating in football and basketball.  With that we have stepped up the size and quality of the trophies that will be presented for defensive and offensive POY.

Johnathan Jackson (Bonner) and Nick Rodriguez (Turner) were the winners of this award last year.

This year we have 6 very deserving young men.  All had very good seasons but only two will take home the trophy.  The trophy is 13.5 inches tall and is made of resin.  I can't wait to see what it looks like like but the picture is pretty cool.  The trophies will be personally engraved as the 2012 KCK Preps Offensive and Defensive POY.  I can wait!!

Offensive POY features 2 juniors and 1 senior.  J'Veyon Browning (Schlagle), Dimonic Roden-McKinzy (Wyandotte), and Paul Berry (Turner).

Defensive POY features a sophomore and 2 seniors.  Keaton Cofield (Piper), Trevon Wallace (Schlagle) and Colton Beebe (Piper).

The trophies you see Nick Rodriguez holding will be the same for all of the individuals named to the teams.  Same rules as last year.  If you made both teams you get 2 trophies.  Rodriguez walked out last year with 3 trophies.

Will someone win 3 this year?

Trophies will also be presented to cross country athletes as well as volleyball.  Any athlete invited will receive a trophy.

Join us December 15th and witness for yourself.  We will have refreshments and plenty of highlights to review.  Totally free and participants are free to bring family and friends.

If you have any questions about this event please let me know.
