Recruiting Session - 11/24

by David Brox,

I will be hosting what I will call a recruiting session.  The goal of this meeting is to help review recruiting profiles, highlights, and form letters to send out to colleges.  We will also learn how to find the recruiting coordinators at schools of interest and send out emails to them.

It is very important for me that the athletes I work with understand that getting a scholorship is not easy.  The work required to get one goes beyond the gym and playing field.  You have to treat this process like a job search.  Your hardwork in the classroom and field should be shown in your profile and highlight package that you can then send off for evaluation.

A free education is nothing to laugh at and is not something that is freely given by coaches so again you must show persistence, patience and determination.  I would guess that 9 out of every 10 emails you send will be unanswered.  There are ways to determine though that you are in fact getting the looks.  In the end it only takes 1 or 2 responses to hopefully get an offer.

I am not here to crush dreams but in this process I am very honest.  If a top tier BCS school has not contacted you prior to your junior or senior year then it is incredibly unlikely they will reach out now.  I am not saying you shouldn't try to send your information but these schools are grabbing the top 1 or 2 percent of athletes across the country.

So maybe Texas and Oklahoma are not beating down your door.  There is some good news.  There are literally 100's of schools D1, D2, D3 and JUCO's available.  I know everyones dream is D1 and JUCO is another avenue to a D1 program BUT you must keep all options open and be willing to work for a D1 school and if that doesn't work out possibly accept D2 or a JUCO.

I am going to limit this first session to 10.  I want to see the available room I will have.  Parent are more than welcome to join.  I prefer it honestly so you know what is going on.

How much:

Nothing.  Information is 100% free.  My service at Sport Highlights Unlimited takes a bit of time so I do charge for that.  You are not required to use my service to attend.  I know Brian Cobbins did a great job with his own highlight and that will work for what we are trying to do here.

What do I need to bring?

  • Laptop - if you don't have one then I will try to have a computer or two setup.
  • Recruiting Profile - ask for an example if you don't have one.
  • Link to your highlight - I highly advise you to keep the highlight around 5 minutes and silent.  I love music but recruiters do not.  Your best plays should be up front.  I hear all the time that coaches may watch 2 or 3 minutes tops so you want to grab their attention.
  • List of 10 schools you are interested in.
  • Just like for the workouts I ask for you to come prepared to work on the task at hand.
Email me to RSVP.
