The Piper Pirates boys basketball team continued two trends Friday night at home against the Turner Golden Bears - strong second halves and offensive balance.

Another name introduced himself to the Kaw Valley League tonight - Tyler Owens. Owens led Piper with 18 points. Luke Long had 10, while Dominique Jennings added nine points in the game for the Pirates.

After a bit of a slow start, the Pirates offense heated up in the second quarter and third quarter, scoring a combined 48 points in the two quarters.

Piper hit five three-point shots in the third quarter alone, with Owens drilling three of them.

The Pirates would nearly build a 20-point lead. Turner used a good fourth quarter to cut the gap down to 10 points by the end of the game.

De'Andre Fenrick finished the game with 22 points, a game-high. Sam Worthy wrapped up the game with 14 points for the Golden Bears.

Despite a very strong game from Turner's McKenna Martell, the Piper girls rebounded after a loss to Tonganoxie earlier in the week.

Jessica Wayne finished the game with 18 points, while Carly Zwart finished with 14 points and Megan Woolley had 10 points.

Martell's performance was the individual story of the night. She had a game-high 29 points for Turner in the loss.
