By NICK SLOAN, NJSloan212@gmail.com

BISHOP WARD 48, Piper 41 - The Bishop Ward Cyclones girls team earned a split with their rivals from Piper High School.

Ward used a strong first half and held on in the second half for the victory. Ward ran out to a 28-16 lead behind the efforts of three players who scored in double figures - Hanna Barnhart (13 points), Samantha Morrissey (13 points) and Taylor Williams (10 points).

Piper Pirates freshman Tyler Johnson scored a game-high 17 points. Megan Woolley added 12 points for the Pirates.

Piper was within four points late, but a late three-point play was the dagger the Cyclones sought.

-----

BONNER SPRINGS 61, Turner 25 - Following a tough loss that was their first of the season, Bonner Springs rebounded with a blow-out victory against the Turner Golden Bears.

Yessenia Hernandez scored a game-high 18 points for Bonner Springs, as Bonner poured it on with a 24-4 third quarter to extend a 29-16 halftime lead to a 53-20 advantage in the fourth quarter.

Cassady Holloway scored a career-high 16 points for Bonner Springs, while Anna Deegan scored 15 points in the game.

KCK Recaps: Sumner Academy smothers Harmon, Harris leads Washington in comeback win against Wyandotte

By NICK SLOAN, NJSloan212@gmail.com

Sumner Academy 65, HARMON 54 - All year, the Harmon Hawks have had an opportunity to earn a season-defining victory.

Once again Tuesday night, they came up short.

The league-leading Sumner Academy Sabres knocked off Harmon 65-54 to remain undefeated in the league and one game ahead of Washington in the Kansas City-Atchison League.

Marcus Allen led the way for Sumner Academy with 23 points, while Benny Parker added 22 for Sumner Academy. Alex Garvin hit four three-pointers for the Sabres.

Harmon's star Branden Roark was held to just 12 points by the Sabres, while Mike Carson scored a team-high 17 points for Harmon.

Sumner led by 13 at halftime and were really never threatened in the game. Harmon narrowed the lead some, but Sumner Academy never lost it.

The loss eliminates Hamon from the league competition this year.

-----

Schlagle 62, ATCHISON 49 - In what might go down as the most embarrassing "loss" for the former Kansas City Kansas League schools this season, Schlagle had to survive a tough game in Atchison.

All season long, KCK teams have been pummeling Atchison.

That wasn't the case on Tuesday.

Atchison trailed by just three points entering the fourth quarter, but Schlagle's Jameon Cal and D.J. Sayles were too much. Cal scored a team-high 20 points, while Sayles had 12.

Schlagle eventually put the game away in the fourth quarter.

-----

WASHINGTON 72, Wyandotte 64 - In the most competitive game of the evening, the Wyandotte Bulldogs lost a lead with two minutes left to go in what would have been a major upset on the road.

Adrian Goodlow put Wyandotte on his back during the game.

Goodlow, the leading scorer for the Bulldogs, had 28 points and four three-pointers -  a performance that earned the respect of Wildcats fans on the night. Shaquille Smith had 13 points and 12 rebounds in the game.

Wyandotte and Washington were tied at 30 at the half, but the Bulldogs built a five-point advantage in the third quarter.

Enter another unlikely hero for the Wildcats.

Two weeks after Savion Gaines had a 12-point performance that turned a loss to Harmon into a win, it was JaRon Harris who had a surprisingly outstanding performance.

Harris scored a career-high 20 points for Washington. Harris has been one of the best defenders on the Wildcats this season. Now, it looks like he could provide valuable minutes offensively.

Dominique Wilson had 14 points in the game, while Deandre King had 13.
