KCK Preps: One on One with Dave Gonzales

by David Brox, davidbrox@shukc.com

KCK Preps is behind our 3 schools heading to the state tournament and as I mentioned before I got to meet coach Dave Gonzales saturday after the Sumner vs Ottawa game.  There were some things that I feel had to be said but I am real hopeful and excited to push forward in a positive direction.  What better reason than a state playoff birth for Harmon to sit down and talk shop about the Hawks head coach.

Jamie Redic Second Team

by David Brox, davidbrox@shukc.com

I was floored when I saw the KCAL girls teams for basketball.  I am getting to see a lot of games watching film and also following up on some stats.  I won't do this very often as I am generally a positive person.  So it wasn't the subject I expected this to happen but I am going to step right out and say anyone that voted in this got it wrong.

It appears that a what have you done for me lately attitude was used but let me remind you that Redic in league play averaged 10.9 and 7.8 reb.  4 straight double doubles to begin league play including a 23 and 12 performance against Atchison who was the co-league champion.

I am sure there is a good reason to leave off the leading scorer, rebounder and shot blocker on the team that went 9-1.

6-FebW 47-22Wyandotte (KS)83
10-FebL 49-62Atchison (KS)91
14-FebW 52-28Harmon (KS)64
17-FebW 42-11Washington (KS)66
23-FebW 40-35Schlagle (KS)119

Sumner in 10 league games in which they again won 9 scored a total of 474 points.  Redic scored 109 of them which is almost 23%.  I defy anyone to find me better in this league.

Due respect to all of the ladies that made the first team but I am just making a case for Redic.  I make this case for a reason because I will say it right now.  I will announce our first award winner at the KCK Preps award ceremony.  Jamie Redic will be on our first team All KCK Team.

We will be releasing the candidates for some of the top awards over the next few weeks.  Award ceremony will be the 7th or 14th of April.
