KCK Preps: Player Spotlight - Luke Long

I had a nice conversation about the underclassmen team we announced a few weeks back with a parent on twitter. He agreed with the selection of Colton Beebe but thought there was another Pirate deserving of consideration on this team.

Luke Long is a sophomore for the Pirates and definitely showed some flashes during the season that continue to show a possible brighter future for Piper basketball fans. I love all feedback and wanted to go look up some film on Luke and I like what I saw. A smaller player but has range on his jump shot and an effective mid-range game which could develop into something very effective.

Check out his 21 point performance against Paola earlier this year. 21 may not seem like a lot but when you consider that Piper only scored 39 points in the game, well then you have to rethink that. Accounting for over 50% of your teams points in a game as a sophomore is impressive and we will definitely pay closer attention to Luke next season. The scouting report is going to be simple which is to make him go left so hopefully Luke will focus on a cross over move which will be a great compliment to an already good right hand floater.
