Winning championships aren't exactly a new thing for the Kansas City Blue Dogs basketball program.
The program has won over 100 championships since it began, with the latest coming last weekend at Shawnee Mission Northwest.
The eighth-grade Blue Dogs team won the tournament behind pressure defense and execution of the offense, according to head coach Derrick Estelle.
"We pressured the ball and no one could respond to it," Estelle said. "They looked really good on offense and executed."
Estelle said Greg Sloan, JaMarcus Dawn, Zach Cahill and Derrick Estelle II stood out among the team.
It's the second championship for the eighth-graders this spring.
