Pirates football team leads the way in awards

Eight different Piper Pirates football players earned awards at last weekend's KCK Preps Awards Presentation. Head coach Chris Brindle and linebacker Colton Beebe took home two of the top three awards.

KCK Preps - How Bad Do You Want It

by David Brox, davidbrox@shukc.com

I haven't coached football a day in my life.  I however love to play and absolutely love working out so I am going to be pulling a few of the local players together to workout.  We will have the cameras going to put together a remake of the very popular motivational video "How Bad Do You Want It".  If you haven't seen it check it out below.

Making the video will be the easy part.  Organizing and hosting the workout is the real challenge so I am going to keep the group of attendees for the first workout very small but include the following players: Vernon Vaughn, Jordan Jackson, Deante Ambler, J'Veyon Browning, Tony Brown, Stevie Williams and hopefully the Murphy twins will be able to make it.

I am researching a number of speed, agility, route running, and some other things to develop a flow for the workouts.  My goal obviously is to capture (on camera) these young men putting in work and having the drills setup to allow them to get a solid work out.

We are going to get an early start and if successful I will do the work outs once or twice a month.  Totally free and my only request is that they bring high energy and desire so we can capture how bad we want it here in KCK.

I will look to do something similar for basketball.  I will need to research a gym I can use for that.  I would like to gather an interest list.  I am particularly interested in working with guards.  If you have interest please send me an email.

For the football workouts you are welcome to email me but again for the first one I want to keep the group small so I can develop a solid flow.  I hate wasting peoples time so I want to get in and out fast but achieve an effective workout.  If you are interested in coming out to help please let me know.

Be on the look out for the 100 Yard Post video.  I will be creating some videos heading into next season that won't be realistic feats but will hopefully look pretty cool.  The theme will be KCK Where Amazing Happens!

Introducing KansasArena.com

By NICK SLOAN, NJSloan212@gmail.com

There's a new member of the Website family this morning.

This weekend, I've launched a new Website called "The Kansas Arena," which is located at www.KansasArena.com.

This Website will be geared towards coverage of football and basketball across the state of Kansas, particularly focusing on small colleges and high school events.

Details:
  • Heavy coverage of Kansas junior college football and basketball. The Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference is among the best when it comes to JUCO football and JUCO basketball. The Kansas Arena is going to cover the KJCCC very hard, particularly with football and basketball.
  • Heavy coverage of the NAIA schools in Kansas. The KJCCC and the NAIA will be the meat and potatoes in terms of coverage at Kansas Arena.
  • Recruiting, whether it be at the high school or college level. Again, with the success of two year colleges here in the Sunflower State, this state is becoming a recruiting heaven for football and basketball players. Kansas Arena wants to promote this and help these athletes receive additional attention.
  • Some high school coverage in terms of football and basketball in Kansas. I will still be concentrating on KCK athletics on KCK Preps, but I'll post some high school stuff there occasionally from around the state.
There's need for reporting on these colleges more and I believe the Website could be effective in accomplishing that.

There are two selfish reasons why I'm doing this.

First, I want to keep up with some of the athletes who have left KCK. It's a state-wide blog and Website, but you can bet there will be some KCK items pop up there. The Class of 2012 has particularly been a special one and I want to keep track of athletes like Vernon Vaughn (there will be some KU and Kansas State items occasionally), the Murphy Twins, Marcus Allen, B.J. Watson, Adrian Goodlow, Branden Roark and other athletes.

Second, I'm a little bored. I'm still planning to publish KCK Preps, but I want a bit of a new challenge. Though there are some hurdles left to go, I feel as if KCK is back on the map in terms of athletics. More and more players are receiving honors, despite the unfortunate snub or two that still pops up. If you follow the NBA, you'll know the story of Larry Brown. Brown loved taking over bad franchises in turning them into winners. He would often leave when the team was ready to win a title.

I feel like I'm Larry Brown when it comes to web-publishing. My favorite part of building a Website is at the beginning, not the peak of it or the record traffic numbers that come in.

(On that note, I'm working with a few people on another Website I'll announce soon.)

KansasArena.com is at its beginning.

I hope you give it a chance and check it out once in a while.

Again, thanks for reading!
