David Brox Playlist

by David Brox, davidbrox@shukc.com

I work hard to stay in shape.  I was heart broken a few weeks back when I found out that I had washed my IPOD.  I didn't realize how much the music in my playlist helped me push out another set or another mile on the track.  I am going to post a few songs that I will classify as my "can't quit" playlist.

The first song is cheesey (any Nelly song is cheesey) but man there are more than a few parts that just simply make me go.

"I got that can't stop, won't stop, in my veins."

"Up or down 10, I am going to fight till the end."

"I push myself to the limit so my talent will surface"

"Ain't no way they can... NO, ain't no way they can... NO, ain't no way they can... NO, ain't no way stop me now!"

Hit me up with your "can't quit" songs.  I will work to find clean versions of a few others I have over the next few weeks.  As we get into summer I am going to be focusing on working out and music is an awesome motivator. I will share some routines I have learned and will look for feedback on what you are doing to get ready for next season.

KCK Preps Track and Field Weekly Honor Roll

by David Brox, davidbrox@shukc.com

KCK Preps Track and Field Weekly Honor Roll

4-23-12 thru 4-30-12

KCK Preps will attempt to keep a weekly track and field honor roll for the 10 schools in our coverage area. The results for this honor roll were taken from result sheets from the different area meets. There are meets that have taken place where we do not have results. Please feel free to contact KCK Preps to send us meet results via e-mail or a link.

Girls Track and Field Athlete of the Week

Friday Langford – Harmon – Sprints

The second lady freshman to earn these honors this season. The Harmon freshman showed up and showed out last week entering two categories in our weekly honor roll. In her races last week at the Osawatomie Invitational she won the 100m and 200m dashes and ran a PR in the 400m to jump into the honor roll.

Boys Track and Field Athlete of the Week

Jillian Anderson – Wyandotte - Throws

Jillian Anderson of Wyandotte High School had what we term a “break out” week.  In last week’s Aquinas Invitational Anderson added 10 feet on both his discus and javelin throws. This moved Jillian to 2nd place and 1st place on our weekly honor roll list!

S/O to Vernon Birmingham (@PastrV) for keeping this up to date.

Stat of the Week - 5/1/2012

by David Brox, davidbrox@shukc.com

I tweeted out a question which asked with what you know would you draft first (Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, Barry Sanders).  I will work on a poll for this question but as we approach the final days of this school year I am really crunching some numbers.

I got a call last night from Vernon Vaughn who is going to be named the Channel 9 Athlete of the Week, the presentation will air May 9th.  He needed about a minute of footage and it hit me that I have done highlight film for Brisbane, Vaughn and Marcus Allen but haven't touched the topic of Benny Parker in football.

"He could be the best all around player in Sumner Academy history." - coach Todd Wassman

That is saying a lot about a player when he shared the field with Armand Brisbane and Vernon Vaughn who are both tremendous players.  I however agree and admit that I thought Parker's future was on the football field.  I guess I am bound to be wrong once in a blue moon but he is a D1 talent on the hard wood and the gridiron.

There is a bit of tragedy involved here in that we didn't get to see Benny and Vernon finish their careers together on the football and basketball field.  Benny made the tough, yet proper decision to skip football to focus on basketball.  That paid off perfectly when he accepted an offer to play at Nebraska.  Vaughn's injury is well known but it prevented him from playing basketball.  Selfishly though I really wanted to see Parker play football but I again feel it was the right decision.

I digress to share the first time I saw Parker at any type of competitve level was on the football field.  It was an 8th grade game against Central Middle school where Parker took a sweep play to the edge and went for 90 yards.  Time after time he would hit the corner and turn it on.  At one point the free safety from Central did not bother to try and catch him.

With that said if Armand Brisbane is Joe Montana, Vernon Vaughn is Jerry Rice, then Benny Parker is Barry Sanders.  Knowing what you know today.  You are drafting in the first round to create your team and you have Montana, Rice and Sanders who are you selecting first?

Don't answer so fast because I want to give you some stats to chew on.  What if I told you 1 of the players had 1700 total yards, 18 TD's?  What if each of those TD's averaged 50 yards per play?  What if this player gave you 15 yards or more every time he touched the ball.

Take a look at the highlight and let me know what you think.
